The Director of Christian Education (“DCE”) is directly accountable to the Pastor and the Personnel Committee for all aspects of this position description. 


*Interpersonal relationship skills and ability to work harmoniously in a non-discriminatory manner with other persons, both in one-to-one and group meetings.

*Strong leadership, organizational skills.

*Ability to communicate clearly in written and oral forms.

*Computer literacy with the ability to operate in various software protocols, such as word processing, as appropriate to the position responsibilities.

*Appropriate current clearances such as Criminal Record and Child Abuse History checks.

*A current valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. 


The Christian Education chair is appointed by the Session of Middle Octorara.  They oversee the Christian Education of Middle Octorara Church.  The Pastor and at least one Session member serve on the committee as well as all Sunday School officers, teachers, Youth Group leaders and the Sunday morning snack coordinator.  The chair may seek out other volunteers to serve on the committee. 

The DCE shall work with the Pastor and Christian Education Committee to provide a Christian Education program for children and youth which will nurture their formation as Christ’s disciples.  In providing such a program, the DCE shall: 


1.        Hold Christian Education Committee meetings as needed and plan upcoming events.

2.       Be cognizant of the demographics of the area in which Middle Octorara could realistically expect to grow.

3.       Identify the un-churched in the area, and lead the Christian Education Committee in an effort to bring more youth to our Bible School, Sunday School, and Youth Group: public relations effort to include media, website, mailings, home visits ,etc.

4.       Each month compose and distribute announcements to the secretary and newsletter coordinator.

5.       Stay current with Christian Education curricula.

6.       Recruit needed Sunday School  teachers and coordinate the teaching schedules for all classes.

7.       Coordinate with the Church Treasurer in providing learning materials and maintaining a resource library.

8.       Oversee the election of Sunday School officers.

9.       Be on-site during the Sunday School hour, available to provide help and resources to teachers and students as needed.

10.   Support Youth Group leaders: advice, materials, etc.


The Christian Education Committee at MOPC strives to provide Christian Education and related activities for the community.

Our Sunday School uses a variety of teaching methods to enhance Scriptural learning for all ages, interests and knowledge levels. Sunday School is held every Sunday morning from 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. The committee also plans other activities to involve the whole church family so that we can grow together in our faith.
